First Annual Elk River Cornhole Tournament

Saturday May 15, 2010

Check-ins 10:00 am

Tournament starts at 12:00 pm

What the heck is Cornhole?

No, it's nothing dirty, it's a game! Also known as Corn Toss, Kornhole, Corehoe, Bean Bag, Bean Toss, Soft Horseshoes, Indiana Horseshoes, Corn Hole, and Bags, the game is similar to horseshoes, except that you toss corn filled bags at portable wooden platforms.

The history of the game is under much debate, but the recent history is that the game has really acheived major popularity in middle America, especially Ohio & Kentucky. Other areas of the country are also slowly following suit, and Cornhole can often be seen at tailgate parties, parks, BBQs, picnics, and anywhere else fun is being had in the great outdoors.

Cornhole is a seemingly silly game that becomes insanely addictive after only a few games. Basically the game consists of throwing corn filled bags at a ramped board with hole in it. 1 point is scored for landing on the face of the board, 3 points are scored for putting the bag in the hole. Games are played to 21. Simple, right?

First 30 Teams who sign up will enter into a chance to Win a CUSTOM Cornhole Board and Bags. So make sure you pre-register.

Double Elimination tournament, must win 2 out of 3 games to win the match and advance to the next round.
The "Best 2 out of 3 in winners bracket and 1 and done in losers bracket".  as long as a team is in the winners bracket, they play the best 2 out of 3 to win that match. Once a team drops down to the losers bracket, they lose 1 game, you're done. If you win, you move on. This will give teams a guaranteed 3 games for your entry fee instead of 2 games. This gives teams a chance to play 2 different teams too. Simple and easy. The team that wins the losers bracket will have to beat the team that wins the winners bracket 3 games in a row.

Scoring:
Traditional 21 scoring method.  You do not have to win by 2.

Play:
Cancellation scoring will be used for each frame.  A bag in the hole is worth 3 points; any bag that hits the board first and remains fully on the board, is worth 1 point.  Either player may pitch from either side of the board, but may not step beyond the front end of their board, or it is a foul.

Brackets will be randomly selected by the tournament committee.

Pace of Play:
When a team is called to a board to play, they will have 5 minutes to get to the board, warm up, and begin play.  A team that does not show up within the 5 minute time period will forfeit the first game.  If they do not show up within an additional 5 minutes, they will forfeit a second game and the match.  Time limits will be strictly followed.  When playing, each participant should be ready to throw immediately following his or her competitor.  Each player may toss 4 warm-up bags between matches, but there will be no warm-up tosses allowed between games.

The tournament committee will have the final, absolute word on any conflicts that may arise.  Please be considerate of your opponents and keep play moving.
